CELEBRATORY CONCERT FOR THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE LATERAN TREATY AND REVISION OF THE TREATY

img 20170216 171529On Tuesday the 14th of February, after the end of the annual meeting for the celebration of the 88th anniversary of the Lateran Treaty (11th February 1929) and the 33rd anniversary of the Revision of the Treaty (18th February 1984), the Cappella Musicale Pontificia “Sistina” and the JuniOrchestra of Santa Cecilia National Academy played a concert at Sant’Eugenio Cathedral.

Many relevant personalities took part to the concert: the President of the Italian Senate, Pietro Grasso, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, the State Secretary, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Major of Rome, Virginia Raggi together with more than 1400 other guests.

The Cappella Musicale Pontificia “Sistina” is the Pope’s choir. It has been active since the origin of the Catholic Church. In 1471 Sisto IV reorganized the choir: since then, the Cappella Musicale Pontificia has been renamed Cappella “Sistina”, as a tribute to the Pope that renewed it.

The JuniOrchestra of Santa Cecilia National Academy is made up by 400 instrumentalists and it is the first orchestra entirely composed by children and teenagers within the field of Italian lyric.

After H.E. Ambassador Mancini’s initial welcome that underlined the relevance of the event as a sign of the excellent relations between Italy and the Holy See, the young group of artists performed several pieces inspired to the lyrical and choral Italian tradition of Rossini, Puccini e Verdi, together with a more contemporary break.
