Rome, 25 May 2022 – It starts today “Wonders. Scopri l’Italia delle meraviglie“, the new venture by “Autostrade per l’Italia” that follow travellers across our cultural, naturalistic and eno-gastronomic heritage. A multi-channel platform that collects donations from key partners, such as the Italian National Commission for Unesco, the Italian Touring Club, WWF and Slow Food Italy, local authorities and even travellers.

The initiative was presented this morning at Palazzo Borromeo. It started with the institutional greeting of the Ambassador of Italy to the Holy See Francesco Di Nitto and was attended by, among others, the Minister of Culture Dario Franceschini, the CEO of Autostrade per l’Italia Roberto Tomasi, the President of the Touring Club Franco Iseppi, the President of WWF Italy Donatella Bianchi and the CEO of Slow Food Editore Carlo Bogliotti.

Wonders accompanies the traveller in the different moments of the journey, from planning to arrival, through an ecosystem of digital tools and physical touchpoints along the highways and in the service areas, with the purpose of creating a community that tells and shares its own travel experiences. Information can be adapted to itinerary and wishes, starting from the large database (cultural, natural and eno-gastronomic sites) of hundreds of experiences connected by the highway network.

“The highways – states the Minister of Culture Dario Franceschini – are a natural vector for promoting the widespread cultural heritage of our country, an infrastructure that connect the territory, potentially bringing travelers closer to the less known realities located a short distance from these important roads. Thanks to the multi-channel platform, Autostrade per l’Italia is equipped with a fundamental tool for this important purpose”.

“We have always believed – says the CEO of Autostrade per l’Italia Roberto Tomasi – that the 3000 kilometres of highway network along the Peninsula are a pivotal element of accessibility, as well as a tool to accompany the traveller, in an innovative and personalized way, to the rediscovery of the country’s cultural, tourist and naturalistic heritage. Consistent with the key principles of the Aspi transformation Plan, Wonders improves the travel experience of users and allows us to contribute to the enhancement of the beauty of the territories rich in art and culture that our network crosses. It is a platform that we will share with local authorities, showcase to promote cultural riches and stimulate travellers to discover its secrets, a source of knowledge for us at Aspi and for citizens”.

Wonders has over 300 podcasts recorded with the voices of Luca Bizzarri and Paolo Kessisoglu, which tell about cultural, naturalistic and eno-gastronomic experiences, also accompanying drive-users thanks to georeferencing. Travellers also have access to a calendar of territorial events with more than a thousand proposals, constantly updated thanks to the contribution of local authorities, associations and users, with special attentions to sustainable travel experiences, exhibitions, parties and festivals. Contests will be dedicated to video makers, enthusiasts and professionals to express their creativity through video content.
On the Wonders platform there are also special experiences such as the Villa dei Volusii, a residential complex belonging to the Roman colony of Lucus Feroniae, found in 1961 during the construction of the “Autostrada del Sole”. The site will now be improved by Autostrade per l’Italia which – thanks to the agreement with the MIC and the Superintendence of Archeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the province of Viterbo and southern Etruria – will allow everyone to visit the site everyday with direct access from the Feronia West Service Area. Among the hundreds of unmissable stages, there are also the cycle paths along the Po, the Cinque Terre and the Via dei Santuari, the DOP delights in the area, Castel del Monte or the Oasis of Grotte del Bussento.

And much more. A journey not to be missed, among the wonders and hidden secrets of the “Belpaese”.
