Conference «45 years after the Helsinki Agreements, Cardinal Silvestrini and the Vatican Ostpolitik»

20200914 093338On Monday, 14 September 2020, the Conference «45 years after the Helsinki Agreements, Cardinal Silvestrini and the Vatican Ostpolitik» was held in the garden and cloister of Palazzo Borromeo.

The aim of the event was to enhance the figure of Cardinal Silvestrini – one of the great protagonists of the diplomatic action of the Holy See in the 70s and 80s – a year after his death, precisely on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the Helsinki Final Act, which constituted the basis for the subsequent creation of the OSCE and determined the consecration of the Holy See as an essential actor on the international scene.

The conference, moderated by journalist Maria Gianniti, saw the interventions of H. EM. Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Vatican Secretary of State, the President of the Council of Ministers, Giuseppe Conte, Prof. Carlo Felice Casula (University of Roma Tre) and Prof. Gennaro Acquaviva (President of the Socialism Foundation).

The event was broadcast live on Telepace channels and the recording is visible by clicking here.
