May 3rd 2018 – Conference “Chiara Lubich and the Economy of Communion: the path of a prophecy”

On Thursday May 3rd, to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Chiara Lubich’s death, the Italian Embassy to the Holy See hosted the Conference “Chiara Lubich and the Economy of Communion: the path of a prophecy” organized in collaboration with the Focolare Movement.
Mons. Giovanni Angelo Becciu, Substitute for General Affairs of the Secretariat of State of His Holiness, Maria Voce, President of the Focolare Movement, Luigino Bruni, Full Professor of Economics at the LUMSA University of Rome , Leonardo Becchetti, Full Professor of Economics at the University of Rome Tor Vergata and Simona Rizzi, President of Tassano Servizi Territoriali Consortium took part to the conference, moderated by Paola Severini.
The initiative represented the opportunity to reflect on the economy after a decade of profound economic crisis that changed the paradigms of industrial relations and labor market in many western countries. As the Ambassador Pietro Sebastiani pointed out, this has led to the worsening of the quality of work and has increased the gap between the few rich and the many poor, who are left with no defense in front of of the deterioration of rules and ethics of the markets.
