Francesco Di Nitto

Ambassador of Italy to the Holy See


Born in Rome on 19 June 1962, he graduated in Economics and Commerce at the "Luiss" University of Rome on 25 March 1985.

He entered the diplomatic corps on 4 March 1991 and took up service in the Directorate General for Political Affairs.

From 7 October 1992 he was assigned to the Cabinet of the Foreign Minister Colombo and subsequently confirmed by the Ministers Andreatta, Elia, Martino and Agnelli.

He served abroad between 1995 and 2001 as Consul in Jerusalem and Counsellor in Santiago de Chile.

On 13 December 2001 he returned to the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the General Secretariat.

Since 5 November 2007 he served as First Counselor at the Italian Embassy to the Holy See.

Subsequently, on 31 May 2011, he took up service at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers as Deputy Diplomatic Advisor to the Presidents Berlusconi, Monti and Letta.

On 2 July 2013 he moved to the Presidency of the Republic of Italy where he served as Deputy Diplomatic Advisor to the Presidents Napolitano and Mattarella.

Since 24 January 2022 he is Ambassador of Italy to the Holy See.
